PYROSIL is a low-temperature, flame-based treatment process that can be used to coat a variety of substrate materials with amorphous silicon dioxide (a-SiO2). The PYROSIL process involves the metered delivery of a silicon-containing gas into a flame, where it will burn and settle in a very thin layer on the surface of the target material. This layer is typically only 5-100 nm thick, but is dense and firmly adhered to the surface. The short exposure time of the flame results in only a moderate increase in surface temperature, making PYROSIL an ideal solution for treating sensitive materials.
